"I love camping. Camp has never been a job for me, but a way of life. I have grown my family through camp, and have gained some of my greatest mentors and friends through camping. Camp has made me want to strive to be a better person on a daily basis and to live out its virtues and character values every part of my life."

“I am a camp kid. So much so I decided to make it a career and a lifestyle. Watching the growth of others and being able to serve others are some of my favorite things about camp. There is nothing like hearing camp buzzing with the sound of laughter and friendship. Whether it is summer camp or a school group, I love watching camp make a difference in people’s lives.”

“What I love most about camp is that we have stayed true to our mission and the mission of the YMCA for over 100 years. Camps were created to build up young people through somewhat simple outdoor activities and by being surrounded by positive role models. At our very core, that is what we do. It is said that ‘Early YMCA leaders understood that if they could shape the values of the youth, they could shape the values of the nation.’ And again, at our very core, that is what we believe.”
Taylor Twombly, Summer Camp Director, email@example.com
“Camp is such a magical place! Having the ability to experience the Flint Hills is such a unique experience for everyone that comes here. I specifically love the bonds created by campers that end up lasting a lifetime. The growth I see from the campers and the staff from the is incredible! I truly believe every child should have the opportunity to experience camp once in their life because of the positive impact it provides.”

“I enjoy watching the campers come through the office to do service projects and being able to offer encouragement and a thank you.”
Jeri Stout, Bookkeeper, firstname.lastname@example.org
“The staff always intrigues me. By the middle of the summer they become more than a name on a paycheck. Getting to know them is always a positive experience.”
Mark Davis, Maintenance Director, email@example.com
Mark Davis joined the Camp Wood YMCA team in the fall on 2010. A man of many trades, runs his own plumbing business, was the former Chase County Fire Chief, a father of four, and a proud grandfather. As an avid hunter and fisherman, working in the outdoors is his ideal setting. Having the opportunity to watch the campers enjoy the work he does, like the two gaga pits he crafted, is just an added bonus.
Cheryl Simonis, Head of Housekeeping and Dining, firstname.lastname@example.org
“Camp Wood is such a beautiful place to work. I am totally enjoying being here and seeing the campers and staff every summer. One staff member when I first started at Camp many years ago told me his stomach was very important, thus the kitchen needed to feed him well. It has been my goal since to make sure all are fed well and enjoy their stay at Camp.”
