Stay with us -- anytime!
In addition to our Summer, Labor Day and Memorial Day Family Camps, your family can stay with us anytime! Our cabins are perfect for families looking to reconnect with one another and with nature. Explore our year-round family lodging options.
Horseback Trail Rides: Available for participants 7 years old and older. All riders are required to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Camp Wood YMCA provides helmets. No previous riding experience is required.
Pony Rides: Available for participants 6 years old and younger. Our youngest campers can experience safe horseback riding while being led by a specially-trained staff wrangler. Parents can walk alongside for added comfort.
Tie-Dye: Each family camp weekend will provide at least one opportunity to tie-dye. Bring your own whites or buy a white Camp Wood YMCA T-shirt from the camp store!
Nature Exploration: Take a hike through the pasture with your family or wait for an organized hike through the hills led by a Camp Wood staff member. Additional nature activities include exploring camp’s fossil pit and searching for reptiles. Camp Wood has a variety of resources you can read and bring with you on your hike to learn more about the beautiful Tallgrass Prairie.
Campfires: Every grouping of cabins has its own fire pit. Weather permitting, Camp Wood staff can provide your family with matches, wood and water to maintain a safe fire each evening.
Alpine Climbing Tower: Available for participants 10 years old and older. You will have the opportunity to climb our 45-foot Alpine Tower through a variety of different challenges. The tower is safely supervised and managed by specially-trained Camp Wood YMCA staff.
Giant Swing: Available for participants 8 years old and older. You choose how high you go--all the way up to 30 feet (as high as the average 2 story house!). The swing is safely supervised and managed by specially-trained camp staff.
Outdoor Cooking: At least two times during the weekend, a Camp Wood YMCA staff member will lead an outdoor cooking session. At each session, you’ll make and enjoy a simple recipe that anyone can cook over an open fire.
Swimming: You are invited to play on Lake Hall’s sand beach or take a dip in our designated swimming area. All swimming is supervised by certified lifeguards.
Campfire Songs: On the first and last evening of camp, families come together with Camp Wood YMCA staff to sing fun songs and watch silly skits around the campfire in our beautiful hilltop amphitheater.
Field Games and Sports: Camp Wood YMCA staff will organize a variety of games ranging from tag to relays to skill challenges. We also have a variety of sports equipment (volleyball, soccer, basketball, tennis, and kickball) that your family can check out and use.
Canoeing: No experience is needed to take a canoe out onto Lake Hall. All boating is supervised by certified lifeguards. Each canoe can carry up to three people.
Archery: Available to all family camp participants (though children younger than 7 may need parental assistance). All equipment and instruction is provided by specially-trained Camp Wood YMCA staff.
Arts & Crafts: Bracelet-making is just one of the many options available in our newly renovated Arts and Crafts Center
