2017 Summer Camps
Traditional Camp is our most popular option and introduces campers to a variety of classic camp activities (horseback riding, swimming, archery, etc.) while also allowing campers the opportunity to customize the week to their interests with daily "skillbuilders" and cabin choice activities.
Indulge your child's love of horses at one of Camp Wood YMCA's popular horse camps. Campers spend their mornings at our hilltop arena and on beautiful prairie trails for a week of riding, practice, and fun. Whatever your child's skill level, we have a horse camp for them.
Now offering Traditional and Horse Day Camps! Join us for all the fun of summer camp from 8:30 to 5:30, Monday through Friday. Just like overnight campers, day campers learn new skills, build character and make new friends while at camp.
Mini-Camp is a four-day, three-night session for children ages 5 through 8 and is based on our Traditional Camp model. Mini-camp introduces new campers to a variety of classic camp activities (archery, swimming, horseback riding, etc.) while tailoring each program to the unique needs of our youngest campers.
Teen camps are designed with our oldest campers in mind--allowing them to experience their favorite activities like the Alpine Tower and canoeing while also trying new activities geared for the unique interests and skill levels of teenagers.
Empower your child or teen to explore their strengths as a leader during one of our popular leadership camps. Whether your child hopes to join our staff as a future counselor or wrangler, or they hope to make a difference in their school and community, we offer training and activities to suit their goals.
Immerse yourself in the wilds of the Tallgrass Prairie. Campers will tent camp most nights, cook meals over campfires, build survival shelters, explore best practices for hiking and Leave No Trace camping, all while learning valuable lessons of the Kansas Prairie at the new Preston Outdoor Education Station and beyond.
Indulge your creative side and spend a week exploring the performing arts at Camp Wood YMCA. Surrounded by campers and counselors with similar interests, you’ll get to spend your days immersed in the arts.
Take your love of cooking to camp where you’ll learn skills to make you a top chef. Campers will spend their mornings in a large industrial kitchen learning meal planning, recipes, menu development and, of course, cooking. Campers also get to eat their creations!
Learn the ins-and-outs of both tower and rock climbing. Campers will spend their mornings at the Tower learning how to tie knots, belay, and climb. This intensive week-long experience will allow campers to feel as comfortable in the air as they are on the ground.
This camp is for those who enjoy tackling unique challenges through problem-solving and applied learning. Campers will use engineering skills, build a lifesize Minecraft city, play strategy-intensive games and use their brains to tackle novel challenges with like-minded campers.
New this year to Camp Wood YMCA, campers will embark on a week-long off-camp adventure. After a one-night stay at camp, these adventurers will head to Colorado where they’ll experience two days of climbing and two days of whitewater rafting. Led by professional outfitters and supervised by Camp Wood YMCA staff, this will an awesome trip for the young adventurer.
